Advanced Trainers’ Retreat

Open only to those who have attended a June Trainers’ Workhop!

Sept 11-15, 2019

This does begin on Wednesday, ends on Saturday.

As usual, 9-5 each day, but we’ll pick one night to hang out, eat, drink, have a campfire, etc. Weather may play a part.

As always, the Advanced Trainers’ event is both looser and more intense than the June workshop. We’re calling it a retreat – turns out, in 2018, it was really exactly that for all attending. We’ve moved to September, when the weather can be glorious.

Because all have a good grasp of RCT basics, we can branch out and do more hands-on or experimental work. Because we kind of all know each other a bit, we can also relax a bit more, share more freely, and try out loud, so to speak.

This year, attendees need to speak up and take responsbility for what they wish to do, learn, experience. We provide the space, a good deal of experience & knowledge, and options. How you use all that – well, up to you!

Ideas in the works:

  • Trail manners – how to set up handler & dog for success with carefully orchestrated practice on real trails! We may call for clients with this need and/or work with dogs present.
  • Train a critter – your choice of our farm animals. Probably will stick to the donkeys, horses & maybe the chickens or tortoises?
  • Scent work & tracking with John, maybe some scent discrimination games and Search & Rescue games (like Dress A Dummy)
  • Equipment fit, structure & gait
  • Quiet walks with dogs & friends
  • Find the kid in you!
  • Something crafty to let us play in non-doggy ways for a while (last year’s project still makes people smile!)

5 days are plenty to accommodate those who really want to relax but also dive deep into working on something for a sustained period. June tries to provide a wealth of info, but not being able to practice and refine can be frustrating. This September retreat allows us to split into groups intent on working on Z while others focus on Y, and others just go lay in the hay field with their dog and watch clouds. All good.

Come for 2 days, 3 days, or 4, or all 5. Good food, great conversation, and of course, dogs, the farm and a break from real life. $900 for 2 days; $1300 for 3 days; $1500 for 4 days; $1600 for 5 days.

EZ Does it! I’m offering a Payment Plan — up to you to make the payments & keep track, with final payment due by August 15, 2019.

As usual, you will be fed & watered in style, welcomed with open arms, and find old & new friends waiting for you.
