Green Eggs and Ham and – Dog Training? The Power of Behavioral Flexibility
Is your dog behaviorally flexible? What does that even mean?
Think about what your dog knows. Where does your dog know it? Borrowing a bit from Dr. Seuss’ famous Green Eggs & Ham, could she do it:
- in a house
- with a mouse
- in a box
- with a fox
- with a goat
- on a boat?
Whatever your training goals or experience, the challenge we all face is helping our dogs develop the flexibility and fluency that allows them to put their skills to use, anywhere, any time. It’s not just about repetitions or reinforcement. There are many factors working together. Not all dogs are equally flexible, behaviorally speaking.
The good news is that you can help your dog’s mind stretch in ways that help build resilience and confidence. And we can all use more of that!
In this webinar, we’ll explore:
- The power of behavioral flexibility
- Generalization – do dogs generalize? (spoiler: Yes they do!)
- The myth of “find a distraction free place”
- Finding your dog’s Think & Learn Zone
- How stretchy is your dog’s mind?
Behavioral flexibility comes easier to some dogs than to others. Temperament plays a part, as do early puppyhood development and life experiences. Our own behavior as handlers can also contribute to behavioral flexibility or rigidity.
Life is unpredictable, and adaptability and resilience are key to stress reduction. Learn how to improve your dog’s ability to respond flexibly. Put some green eggs and ham in your dog’s life – so she can do it here, do it there, do it everywhere!
