Part 2 – Introduction to CARAT: Case Histories
Tuesday, July 11, 2023
In this Webinar Series:
Developed by Suzanne Clothier in 2007, CARAT (Clothier Animal Response Assessment Tool) takes a detailed view of the individual dog as a unique combination of many factors working together to influence, exacerbate, mitigate and enhance each other. In the CARAT profile created by the specifics of this complex interaction of multiple traits, an accurate picture is created of the individual, regardless of breed or age. CARAT looks at these traits and their interactions: Sociability, Social Use of Space, Social Tolerance, Biddability (familiar & strangers), Patience, Awareness (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory), Persistence, Arousal, Resilience, Energy, Social Confidence, Environmental Confidence and Self Modulation. The CARAT profile defines what lifestyle, job or demands might be most suitable for this dog, and what situations or handlers or expectations might be unfair, distressing or unproductive for this individual animal.CARAT aids professionals in making better assessments of the dog as an individual, aiding in the creation of effective, humane training plans suited to that individual.Additionally, CARAT can aid in the selection of dogs for a specific purpose, handler or environment, and helping handlers understand their dogs in a nuanced, truly holistic way.Part 2 – Introduction to CARAT: Case Histories
Developed by Suzanne Clothier in 2007, CARAT (Clothier Animal Response Assessment Tool) is a novel assessment system that categorizes behavior traits in multiple components that are intuitive and practical.
CARAT takes a detailed view of the individual dog as a unique combination of many factors working together to influence, exacerbate, mitigate and enhance each other. In the profile created by the nuances and specifics of this complex interaction of multiple traits, an accurate picture is created of the individual, regardless of breed or age.At all times, behavior is assessed according to how productive, functional, or adaptive it may be, with a full understanding that what may be productive, functional or adaptive in one context may not be in another context.
For example, there can be great differences in the CARAT profiles of dogs described as “anxious” or “hyperactive” or any number of labels and interpretations that tell us nothing about the individual. This webinar provides a look at how CARAT can reveal the nuances that underlie each dog’s behavior.
CARAT is a must-have tool for any serious animal professional who is involved in assessing behavior. Whether you are a trainer, a behaviorist, a breeder, a veterinarian, in rescue/shelter work, or involved in service dog organizations, CARAT can open a new world of observation and understanding.
This Intro to CARAT Part 2: Case Histories webinar will provide a look at how CARAT framework helps you fine tune your behavior modification and training plans.
Join us and find out why those who know CARAT say, “CARAT changes everything!”
