Description
Teach Relaxation Through Relationship — Not Commands
Really Real Relaxation (RRR) is a unique protocol that helps dogs learn to self-regulate by choosing to relax. Instead of being told to “settle,” the dog is supported in discovering a relaxed state through connection, social modeling, and intrinsic motivation.
RRR invites the handler to relax with the dog. The result? A co-regulated, shared experience that builds trust, connection, and lasting change.
This method works beautifully for:
- Puppies and adolescent dogs
- High-drive or reactive dogs
- Service and therapy dogs
- Shelter and rescue dogs
- Sport dogs who need a reliable off-switch
RRR can often be taught in just one session. It’s simple, powerful, and designed to fit into real-life environments where dogs need to stay regulated — at home, at dog events, at the vet, or even a busy sidewalk cafe.
What You’ll Learn:
- How to teach RRR step-by-step — even as a beginner
- How dogs use social referencing and co-regulation to relax
- Why RRR works faster (and more deeply) than mat work or “down stays”
- How to integrate RRR into classes, private sessions, and home routines
- Case studies + real-time video with dog/handler teams
- eBook + troubleshooting guide for deeper learning

FAQS:
Is this suitable for puppies or high-drive dogs?
Yes! RRR is perfect for dogs of all ages — especially excitable, reactive, or adolescent dogs who need help learning to downshift and relax.
How is this different from a down stay or mat work?
RRR is not cued, stationary obedience. It invites the dog to relax by choice, creating real internal self-regulation — not just stillness.
Can I teach this to clients or use it in classes?
Absolutely. RRR Pro is designed for professionals who want to integrate this method into private training, group classes, or shelter work.
How long does it take to teach?
Most dogs can learn RRR in one session. Some dogs (or their humans!) may benefit from a few sessions to truly integrate the skill.

I enjoyed the course but more importantly, as a pro trainer, and I always look for new modalities and ideas to bring to my private training practice. This methodology is one of those “jewels” I will incorporate into my behavior modification toolbox to help my clients help their dogs relax in “real world” scenarios.
Suzanne does a terrific job in delivering the information by providing clear examples of her protocol and what is not. However, do not be fooled by the simplicity of the exercise/protocol! There is much more nuance to the steps involved. From my perspective, there is a secondary benefit for dog parents to learn when engaging in Suzanne’s RRR. They will learn to look for small changes in their dog’s body language and demeanor, which supports their dogs in learning how to lower their arousal level.

Suzanne Clothier is a brilliant trainer and teacher. I have seen her demonstrate this at an in-person workshop. Since then, I’ve practiced it with clients and love the approach. I signed up for this class to take a deeper dive into RRR and I am glad I did. Suzanne breaks things down so well for easy learning.

A brilliant skill that not only helps my girl relax in different situations, but helps me to relax and stay connected with her IN THE MOMENT. It’s really quite simple, but we’re so used to always DOING something that it takes a while to “get it.”

Excellent, well constructed teaching!
I watched the RRR on a PPG webinar and wanted more. The Pro webinar is an excellent teaching program, complete with diagrams, and real video showing real-time changes in dogs behavior. Ms. Clothier’s patient, quiet voice is a reminder that calmness always wins over loud, pushy behavior from humans and dogs!

This is a great way to teach you and your dog how to relax with fewer steps than other programs I have seen. I also like these instructions since the handler shows the dog how to be relaxed as well. So often, handlers including myself are asking for calm and not demonstrating it as well. I plan on using this with my dogs.

Priceless!
I loved this course. It is so helpful to not only read what to expect and look for but to also see through video usage what the instructor is describing. Not only are the successes highlighted, but also potential pitfalls and what to do if/when you encounter them.
For a dog to be able to learn to regulate their own arousal level is key for me. Thank you!

A must for all dog guardians and trainers!
This course is very easy to digest (from the content to the layout of modules). I can’t wait to start using this with my clients dogs and introduce it to my local shelter!

I enjoyed learning this relaxation technique and am eager to show it to future clients. the videos are very helpful in identifying the subtle changes in the dog’s behavior before he settles down and starts to relax. Thank you!

Incredibly helpful for reactive, high-energy, and dogs that need and on/off switch!
I love this exercise and describe it to dog owners as a team meditation exercise. It’s an exercise every reactive dog should have the the opportunity to learn, for sure. I find this approach helps the dog their chill more independently and organically. The requirement of the handler to also regulate themselves helps to keep my tendency to micromanage in check. I have made dramatically better progress helping a dog find relaxation and self-regulate using this protocol after a single session than with weeks of daily drills with another protocol. (That sounds cliche, but it is true.) It is very integration-into-your-life-friendly. So great!

I’ve been using another relaxation protocol to help owners teach their dogs to relax and settle, but Suzanne’s method makes it clearer for the dog and achieves faster results. This is a great tool!

This course has changed my business. I’ve been focusing on how to help learning teams understand how capable their dogs are. This technique has changed so many lives already for my students and I’m so grateful that you developed this course. Thank you so much!!

Important skills for true relaxation while maintaining connection
This protocol is one that I believe all dogs (and their humans) would benefit from learning. I especially enjoyed watching the dogs (and their handlers) in the guided training sessions as each one had a different starting point. The conversation about management versus actual relaxation was powerful as well. That’ll stay in my brain as a framework and guideline with my own dogs as well as when I work with clients. Thanks so much for this powerful course!

Very appropriate title for the teaching provided. I particularly loved the videos shared in the course.
Comprehensive yet simply put. I appreciate the repetition of the important themes of the training and especially the “it’s a we thing”.
