(3 customer reviews)

Behavioral flexibility comes easier to some dogs than to others. Temperament plays a part, as do early puppy-hood development and life experiences. Our own behavior as handlers can also contribute to behavioral flexibility or rigidity.

Life is unpredictable, and adaptability and resilience are key to stress reduction. Learn how to improve your dog’s ability to respond flexibly. Put some green eggs and ham in your dog’s life – so she can do it here, do it there, do it everywhere!

    Description

Is your dog behaviorally flexible? What does that even mean. Think about what your dog knows. Where does your dog know it? Borrowing a bit from Dr. Seuss’ famous Green Eggs & Ham, could she do it:

    • in a house
?
    • with a mouse?
    •
in a box
?
    • with a fox
?
    • with a goat
?
    • on a boat?

Whatever your training goals or experience, the challenge we all face is helping our dogs develop the flexibility and fluency that allows them to put their skills to use, anywhere, any time. It’s not just about repetitions or reinforcement. There are many factors working together. Not all dogs are equally flexible, behaviorally speaking.

The good news is that you can help your dog’s mind stretch in ways that help build resilience and confidence. And we can all use more of that!

    In this webinar, we’ll explore:

    • The power of behavioral flexibility
    • Generalization – do dogs generalize? (spoiler: Yes they do!)
    • The myth of “find a distraction free place”
    • Finding your dog’s Think & Learn Zone
    • How stretchy is your dog’s mind?

Once again, Suzanne reminds us how the relationship you have with your dog by respecting their individuality, is the key to expanding or generalizing their experiences and behavior.

    2. Elyse Clawson

I enjoyed this webinar and as always I learn something valuable from Suzanne’s webinars, books etc. Suzanne has a way of providing important information in a way that is accessible and engaging. The exercises drove home many of the points she was making. She also provided information on how to support dogs who are not inherently behaviorally flexible as well and encouraging flexibility. Her knowledge of training and genetics is impressive.

It was a great webinar. It made me think about the things I do as I work with my dogs. It was especially helpful to me as I have a blind greyhound and he is very routine oriented. I want to work with him a bit on his flexibility.
