Maddening to Maturity: Recorded Webinar

Maddening to Maturity: Recorded Webinar

(5 customer reviews)

Do you wonder where your once wonderful puppy went? And why has he turned into a sometimes maddening, unpredictable, maybe even out of control adolescent? Relax — you’re not alone. More than a few puppy class stars have gone on to be champion buttheads as teenagers!

For many dog owners, the 18-24 month period of adolescence is problematic. Even with a great start in puppyhood, many dogs hit adolescence and become frustrating, unruly, and simply maddening in some ways. While puzzling to many owners, this is a natural but poorly understood stage of development.

    Description

Did you know that adolescence begins around 20 weeks of age?
That a year old dog is roughly the equivalent of a 14 year human?
That adulthood in the dog begins at 2-4 years of age?
That the most annoying teenage dogs are often geniuses?

The Relationship Centered Training (RCT) approach focuses on three areas of the teenage dog’s life:

    • Relationship with handler
    • Social life (other people, dogs & animals)
    • Life skills (self control, basic manners, coping skills)

    This recorded webinar will address:

    • The teenage brain – risk, reward and relationships
    • The handler’s role as the teenage dog’s guide to life
    • Balancing the relationship
    • Cooperation as a lifestyle
    • Permission and parameters
    • “Even though” empathy & expectations
    • Potholes, loopholes and missing bricks in the dog’s skill sets

When you understand your adolescent dog better, you can settle into the work and joys of helping them grow into a wonderful adult dog. The kind of adult dog that makes people say, “Oh, I wish I had a dog just like that!” while you smile and wonder if they knew him as a teenager.

No matter how many times I listen/watch/read Suzanne’s work, I always come away with a new nugget or idea. Thank you.

Suzanne’s science-based, but more importantly relationship centered training that prioritizes cooperation between dog and owner, makes training enjoyable for both dog and owner.

Thanks so much for this webinar I have a youngster who will be 1 yr old next week and a 7 yr old, both intact males. Your instructions were super useful. Even though I managed everything pretty well it was good to have it confirmed that I’m on the right track. Plus there are a few additional pointers and things to work on. 👍👍👍

Unlike a lot of info on teenage dogs which usually concentrate on how to get through this phase asap, unwanted behaviours and how to train the dog out of them, this webinar is so much more than that. I had raised a few teenage dogs and got through it raising them to adulthood without too much effort or trouble – that was until my latest 2 year old let me know that “nah…you know nuthin” and he was right. What I really appreciated was Suzanne’s info on what is happening in the adolescent brain, critical vs sensitive periods and how adolescence is such an important stage of life not just something we have to survive, but something we have to nurture. So many A-Ha!! moments. If you have a puppy, it will go through adolescence so be prepared and watch this webinar. It has answered so many questions for me. Tricia Dunlop
